Some cars display a separate "charging system" warning rather than the standard battery light. On Honda, Toyota, and some other makes, you may see a dedicated charging fault indicator or dashboard message rather than the battery icon.

The meaning is the same: the charging system has failed and your car is running on battery power only. Without charging, the battery will drain completely and the car will stop — usually within 20–60 minutes depending on electrical load.

Immediately reduce electrical load:

Turn off: air conditioning, heated seats, heated steering wheel, rear window heater, interior lights, stereo. Leave on: headlights (legally required if visibility demands it), hazard lights if needed for safety.

Common cause:

The alternator has failed — either the alternator itself, the voltage regulator inside it, or the drive belt. A snapped drive belt is the most obvious cause (listen for a sudden screech followed by silence from the belt area) and also means the water pump has stopped — engine overheating will follow within minutes.

Get to a safe stopping point and call breakdown. This is not a drive-to-a-garage situation.
